COVID-19 has caused thousands of entrepreneurs to put their businesses on hold. Today, Appear Here have re-opened their competition, space for ideas in an effort to support businesses through this and giving them the opportunity to kickstart their business when the crisis ends.
2019’s UK winner was rising menswear designer, Liam Hodges. He started out at London’s Royal College of Art in 2013 and debuted a collection for Fashion East before gaining catwalk sponsorship at the prestigious Topman backed MAN show for three seasons.
His work has since been featured in Dazed, i-D, GQ, Vogue and Hypebeast, while his designs have been spotted on the likes of Drake, P.Diddy, FKA Twigs, Danny Brown and Big Sean.
Liam’s brand was chosen as the Space for Ideas “Team Choice”, for his unique focus on creating a conversation that challenges current narratives surrounding the relationship between designer clothes and sustainability.
Liam saw the opportunity to turn production waste and excess material into new and desirable products. His aim was to provoke conversation on the way we consume, the season-led nature of the fashion industry, and how we can move towards more sustainable practices.

Space for Ideas is a global competition to help emerging creatives, designers and entrepreneurs get their ideas out there, by connecting them to the best retail spaces and providing them with the right tools to achieve success.
Since its inception in 2015, Space for Ideas has seen over 5000 applicants, from CFDA winners to first-time entrepreneurs – with ten winners launching their ideas in the world’s best retail destinations.
New for 2020, they’re adding an additional prize category, “Space for Change”, dedicated to the ideas they believe have the power to shape our world for the better. An additional store in one of the cities will be given to an idea that champions a social cause – one that fights for our environment, communities, or strives to achieve a more equal and fair society.
