Lisa Tobia was named ‘Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the first ever Entrepreneur Wales Awards, sponsored by Business Wales, Welsh Government, in Cardiff on Thursday.
As a creative and an interior design/architectural consultant, Lisa is a dynamic force within today’s design and property industry in Wales.
In 2011, redundancy led Lisa to fall back on her talents and seven years’ experience in architecture and Tobia Designs was established. The firm now delivers a full range of bespoke, versatile interior solutions to clients both in Britain and overseas, including Admiral Group and Petchey Leisure.
The judges highlighted Lisa’s inspiring track record in combining creative flair with entrepreneurial acumen. Her ability to bring ideas to life while inspiring those around her made Lisa stand out as a key contributor to creative energy of the Welsh economy.
We asked Lisa to elaborate on what the award meant to her. She said:
“It’s just great to be recognised for my achievements, I work really hard and I never think I compare to the big companies who get grants and financial help and support. I’ve done everything myself so we’re really going to cherish this.”
Commenting on why Wales is a great place to do business, Lisa added: “[Wales] is small enough to have a great community. When you’re networking you’ll always find someone you know which is great for making connections.”
Jessica Morgan was named runner-up in the Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year category. The graphic designer and illustrator lives and works in Cardiff. She is founder of Jessica Draws Media Ltd which creates bespoke design and marketing solutions for print and digital.
