King Digital, the maker of popular mobile app game Candy Crush, has seen shares plunge 14% in after-hours trading after it issued a profit warning.

The developer said currency fluctuations and a lack of new releases would restrict revenues in the current quarter.

It comes after King reported a 6.1% fall in revenues in the first three months of the year. But the $569.5m (£361m) figures reported were above market expectations.

Despite the better-than-expected revenues, the developer said that “gross bookings” – how much users spend on its apps – would be below expectations in the second quarter.

“We look toward the remainder of the year, we expect the mid-year period to be seasonally softer, returning to growth trends in the latter part of the year,” King Digital said in a statement.
