Asda have unveiled plans to create 5,000 new jobs and open 25 new stores and three depots in 2012.

The supermarket chain will open a new depot in Rochdale, an existing one in Falkirk will be replaced and one in South Elmsall in Yorkshire, which was bought from Netto, will be revamped.

The refurbishments will also extend to 43 of their current stores, with up to 5,000 new jobs being created as a result.

At present the Leeds-based company employs 180,000 staff, but as part of a £500 million expansion drive this number is to increase significantly.
