Sales of tablet computers will continue to accelerate this year, with Apple remaining the market leader, an analyst has predicted.
The JP Morgan hardware analyst has revised upwards his forecast sales figure by 13% to 51.9 million units, MarketWatch reported.
So far, notes analyst Mark Moscowitz, no Android devices have been able to rival Apple’s popular tablets, and the chief contender- Amazon’s Kindle Fire will not be released in the US until mid-November. But the ecommerce giant’s dual-core Fire, coupled with their distribution capabilities and content rights, will make the tablet a serious contender.
“While the OS is likely to remain a weak spot on an Amazon device, we believe the brand name, content and distribution capabilities of Amazon pose risks to Apple’s dominance of the tablet market,” Moskowitz told MarketWatch.
