IBM has unveiled a new infrastructure solution targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).Reliable and scaleable technical infrastructure is just as vital for a small business as it is for large corporations, but the cost and a lack of in-house expertise can often make it a significant challenge.IBM, the computer giant, is looking to reduce that burden with the launch of System i Express and a new scalable pricing model."IBM is providing these clients simplified access to a complete system that is easy-to-manage, easy-to-secure and highly reliable, with built-in virus resistance, database, storage and systems management technology," said Mark Shearer, general manager for IBM System i."With IBM System i Express, a small to medium business can effectively manage all functions critical to the business and focus on driving their business forward, confident that their infrastructure will grow as they grow," he added.Margins are always tight for small firms making any chance to trim costs desirable.Earlier this month, research suggested that businesses could save a total of £78 million by switching from PCs to thin clients.Fraunhofer Institute in Germany found that thin clients would cut CO2 emissions and secure major savings on electricity bills.© Adfero Ltd
