The future of electronics is being unveiled this week at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Though not open to the public, 140,000 retailers and business owners are expected to attend the event held at the Las Vegas Convention Centre from the 6th-9th January.

Samsung and Toshiba are to release their answers to Apple’s iPad following its successes over the past year. Altogether, some 80 tablets are expected to be unveiled in what commentators have labelled ‘the year of the tablet’.

Highlights from previous years have included Panasonic’s vast 150" Plasma TV (2008) and the Minoru 3D Webcam (2009), as well as the first announcement of Blu-Ray in 2004.
