BT and Sky price wars can only be good for sports fans

In March of this year the regulator OFCOM forced Sky to reduce the price it charged other broadcasters to show its premium sports channels to £10.63 a month thereby opening the doors to a new price war.

BT has today (Thursday) announced that customers can buy Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 for just £16.99 a month or £11.99 for just one of the channels.
Gavin Patterson, BT Retail's chief executive, said; "We expect that entry prices a low as £6.99 will welcome in a huge number of extra customers who'd love to enjoy these channels, but thought they were too expensive,"

Sky has the lion’s share of this market and this looks like a tactical move by BT to wrestle some market share.
