Call of Duty developer Activision Blizzard has agreed to buy the maker of Candy Crush for $5.9 billion (£3.8bn).
Ahead of the launch of the latest in the Call of Duty franchise, Activision said its acquisition of King Digital would make it a world leader across mobile, console and PC gaming platforms.
Activision boss Bobby Kotick said the games developer wants to broaden its appeal to a wider demographic. Although there are no official figures, it is widely believed around a quarter of Call of Duty players are female. But Mr Kotick says around 60% of King Digital's users are women.
