Victoria Beckham has been named entrepreneur of the year by Management Today.

The pop star, turned WAG, turned fashion designer, topped the list of 100 UK entrepreneurs.

Management Today recognised her "finely tuned business acumen" and praised her for expanding her fashion range into a £30m turnover business with more than 100 staff.

In a blog post, Matthew Gwyther, editor of Management Today, admitted that some people will "scoff" at seeing Victoria Beckham named the entrepreneur of the year, but he fought her case saying she has built "a company that is both real and wildly successful".

"...some will say she's never been taught how to cut a pattern, or iron a pleat on a fashion course... Doubters will claim she's just the wife of the world's most famously over-tattooed ex-footballer. It's all come to her far too easily" he added.

The former Spice Girl launched her fashion label in 2008. By 2011, she won designer brand of the year at the British Fashion Awards. Over the past five years, Victoria Beckham's brand has achieved a 2,900% increase in sales and 3,233% rise in the number of employees.

In September, Victoria Beckham opened her first physical store in Mayfair, London.
