Employers are increasingly recognising the value of a resilient workforce, that’s according to the latest research by talent management specialists, a&dc.
In a survey of its 700+ LinkedIn followers the assessment and development experts found that the majority (62%) viewed resilience as an integral part to both candidate assessment and staff development. A further 27% felt resilience was only important for helping employees develop, and 11% indicated that it is only important for assessing candidates.
Ali Shalfrooshan, Senior Consultant — Product Development at a&dc commented on these results: “Resilience has long been a buzz word in the HR and business arena, but it’s highly encouraging to note that organisations really do perceive it as a valuable trait. As we continue to operate in a VUCA — volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous — environment, having a workforce that is able to adapt well to change is a business imperative.”
“However, it shouldn’t be underestimated just how important it is to assess this attribute at the initial recruitment stage.” Ali continued. “While it is an element that should be developed in all staff, it is vital to understand how resilient an applicant is when deciding which candidate is more likely to be an effective performer and will be a better fit for the role.
"Using online tools such as Resilience Questionnaires enables hiring decision makers to assess an individual’s capacity to adapt positively to pressure, setbacks, challenges and change, so that they can identify candidates who are better able to achieve and sustain peak personal effectiveness.”
