The US economy grew by 3.5% in the third quarter, compared with the previous year, according to the Commerce Department.
It compares to the annual growth rate of 4.6% in the April to June quarter, and the contraction seen in the first quarter after the country suffered from severe winter weather.
On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve ended its economic stimulus programme which has seen it spend trillions of dollars on bonds. That, combined with today's growth figures add to growing optimism in the US economy.
