Official data released today (Wednesday) shows that UK unemployment fell by 57,000 to 2.51 million in the three months to May.
The Office for National Statistics data shows that the unemployment rate held steady at 7.8%.
The ONS also said that the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance in June fell by 21,200 to 1.48 million, which is the fastest rate in three years.
Although youth unemployment was down by 20,000, the number of long term jobless rose by 15,000.
“The latest labour market figures are positive without being too exciting. Employment is up by 16,000 and the claimant count measure of unemployment is down 21,000," Graeme Leach, Chief Economist at the IoD, said.
"This suggests the recovery is feeding through into the jobs market, but that it will still feel like a jobless recovery for some time yet.”
