The UK's deficit for trade in goods and services narrowed to £2.8 billion during April while the deficit for March was revised down after initially being posted as £3.0 billion.
The deficit with EU countries narrowed by £0.1 billion to reach £3.1 while trade in services reached a £4.6 billion surplus.
Exports rose overall, though by a marginal £200 million, while imports rose by £100 million- indicators of a subdued return to economic health.
