Saturday will see the new Agency Workers Regulations become standard across the board as a raft of new rights and benefits come into play for temporary staff.

Under the new regulations agency workers will receive many similar rights as permanent staff once they have completed 12 weeks of work.

With an estimated 1.4 million agency workers in the UK there is a concern that the regulation changes could, in some business leader's eyes, cost firms in the region of £2 billion a year.

Chief amongst the changes are those concerning pay, overtime, shift allowances, holiday pay and bonuses not attributable to individual performance, as well as maternity rights.
