Controversial taxi app Uber has been hit with a $7.3 million fine in California for not providing regulators with enough information.

The California Public Utilities Commission, the body that regulates businesses operating in the state, said Uber did not submit all reports required.

The Commission claims that Uber withheld information on certain things like accidents.

Uber defended itself, claiming it has given all the information required. It says it will appeal the decision.

This is the latest in a long line of legal battles that Uber has faced around the world since its launch.

The service has been banned in some cities following huge criticism from traditional taxi drivers over lack of regulation. The taxi service has also received criticism over claims it does not vet its drivers after widespread allegations of sexual assaults and harrassments.
