Toyota will build a $1 billion (£672m) production plant in Mexico, ending a three-year investment ban.

The Japanese car giant entered a self-imposed ban on expansion and investment three years. But now, Toyota will also add a new production line to an existing plant in China.

Toyota have suffered a number of high profile vehicle recalls in recent years, which led to to impose the investment ban.

The plant in Mexico is expected to employ around 2,000 people and open in 2019. It will focus on new technology and production of the Toyota Corolla.

The car giant also raised its profit forecast to 2.7 trillion yen ($22.93bn; £15bn), up from 2.5tn yen.
