SuperGroup, the owner of fashion brand Superdry, has reported a surge in sales over Christmas, thanks to a bout of cold weather.

The company said like-for-like sales in the 11 weeks to 10 January were up 12.4%, rebounding from a 4.2% fall in its first half of the year.

Total retail sales were up 17.8%.

SuperGroup said the cold snap, which followed an unusually warm autumn, led to a strong rise in demand for coats and jumpers.

“Whilst there are still 15 weeks of trading remaining in the current financial year, this performance underpins confidence in the group’s expected profit outcome for the full year of £60-65m,” SuperGroup said in a statement.
