Sports Direct has said it will review the terms & conditions of its agency workers after it was claimed they effectively earn less than the National Minimum Wage (NMW).

Majority shareholder and Newcastle United Football Club owner Mike Ashley has said he will lead the review.

Earlier this month, an investigation by The Guardian found that warehouse workers were subject to such strict security measures when leaving work that the time taken to complete the searches took them below the minimum wage threshold.

Workers were also found to the subject to harsh wage deductions for turning up to work as little as one minute late.

Sports Direct denied disciplining workers who took time off due to illness, and 'shaming' underperforming staff over a tannoy.

The sports retail giant said it had reduced the amount of time it takes to search staff's bags when leaving the warehouse in Shirebrook.
