Troubled care home provider Southern Cross have announced plans to offload 3,000 members of staff.
At present the firm employs over 44,000 people across their 750 homes, but continued problems mean they are having to lay staff off.
The company said home managers, deputy managers, relief managers, activity co-ordinators and administrators would not be directly affected.
They will work with the GMB union for a consultation period before the cuts are expected to be completed by the end of October.
