Sony Pictures has named Holywood veteran Tom Rothman as its new chair, following the resignation of co-chair Amy Pascal.

Mr Rothman helped bring Titantic and Avatar to the big screen during his 18 years at 20th Century Fox. The 60-year old left Fox in 2012 to take up a role as chair of TriStar Productions, a joint venture with Sony.

The entertainment arm of Sony Corp's chief executive and chairman Michael Lynton said: "Tom's creativity, strong talent relationships and track record of enduring films and commercial success are unparalleled in this industry."

Amy Pascal stepped down from her role after her emails were leaked during high-profile cyber attack on Sony in November. The emails revealed comments about the viewing habits of President Barrack Obama.
