Former England, Arsenal and Tottenham defender Sol Campbell has confirmed his intention to stand for Mayor of London.

Mr Campbell said he is "definitely interested", but told The Sun "a few more conversations need to take place".

He met with Conservative party Chairman Grant Shapps in December 2014 where they are believed to have discussed Campbell running during the General Election in 2020.

Campbell is certainly not short on confidence in his ability to step into politics. Speaking to The Guardian last year, he said: “I have got so much to offer. I think it is very important for the black vote. If the ‘black vote’ votes it will clearly push someone over the line. I am for getting people from my background to vote.”
