The UK’s leading communications providers have been ranked by their overall customer satisfaction, with Sky emerging as the clear winner, whilst just over half of Virgin Media’s customers are reportedly satisfied.

The research, carried out by independent media regulatory body, Ofcom, garnered the opinions of some 3000 consumers. Fixed broadband provision yielded the lowest consumer satisfaction, whilst most consumers were reportedly pleased with their TV providers.

Overall, the research suggests a marked improvement in complaints handling as well as a general improvement in customer satisfaction. Complaints regarding quoted and actual broadband speeds remain rife, although Ofcom is currently working with providers to publish actual mean data rates and communicate more transparently with consumers after average speeds were found to be consistently below those quoted by the company.
“Ofcom hopes that this research will both incentivise providers to improve all aspects of their customer service, as well as giving consumers valuable information about the standards of customer service when choosing a provider,” commented Ofcom’s Consumer Group Director, Claudio Pollack.
