Shazam has announced it has reached more than 100 million monthly active users.

The app, which allows users to discover information about music and television around them, saw a 34% annual rise in its user number.

It's a big milestone, and one that has only been met by an elite group of services like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The app has been downloaded onto more than 500 million mobile devices to date and is adding users at a rate of 13 million per month, with more than Shazams more than 20 million times per day.

Rich Riley, Shazam CEO, said: “Shazam is evolving from being a way to identify a song to a way for people to explore and connect with the world around them.

“Shazam now delivers a deeper discovery and content experience for music and TV, with retail, cinema and more coming soon. Our rapid user growth and engagement demonstrates that consumers are hungry for an immersive mobile experience.”
