Nicole Farhi, the upmarket fashion and homewares retailer, has announced that it has entered into administration.
Founded in 1982 by Nicole Farhi and French Connection boss Stephen Marks, the firm had five stores, as well as outlets in department stores Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser and Selfridges.
Trading will continue while it holds talks with interested parties, with restructuring specialists Zolfo Cooper having been appointed to advise the firm.
“There was a grim sense of inevitability in the demise of Nicole Farhi," Ross Bailey, founder of Appear Here, said.
“Modern consumers want more from the shopping experience that they weren’t getting from the luxury label and in the current climate it’s innovate, inspire or be damned.
“Nicole Farhi learnt too late that shoppers had forgotten about the brand. When’s the last time someone said “you’ve got to see the new Nicole Farhi store”? Never. That’s the problem. Each touch point with the brand was uninspiring in comparison with competitors.”
