Entrepreneurs from across Scotland and Northern Ireland came together in Edinburgh yesterday (Thursday) to celebrate their success at the first regional gala final of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
Now in its sixth year, the Great British Entrepreneur Awards celebrates the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs in the UK.
Alan Mahon, founder of social enterprise, Brewgooder, took the night’s top honour, winning the Great British Entrepreneur of the Year award for the region. That came having already picked up the Entrepreneur of Good award earlier in the night.
Brewgooder is the first and largest social enterprise brewer operating in the UK, and is the only craft beer that allows its customers to act philanthropically whilst drinking beer.
Francesca James, co-founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, said: “Alan is a fantastic example to other social enterprise entrepreneurs on how to combine a strong social focus with a scalable and exciting business.
“Alan thoroughly deserves both the Entrepreneur for Good Award and the Great British Entrepreneur of the Year award for the region. Team GBEA look forward to keeping a close-eye on Alan’s progress in the coming months.”
Mel Young, founder of the Homeless World Cup, who judged Alan’s entry, said: “Enterprising, innovative, well-led with articulate vision and plans, as well as making a difference to people’s lives. Brewgooder has the potential to be a global player.”
Winners were crowned across 10 categories in total including Family Business, Entrepreneurs’ Team and Entrepreneurial Spirit.
Francesca added: “2018 has been a record year for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the number of entries we received. But the quality of applications has been above and beyond what we’ve seen in previous years.
“Just getting to the gala final as a finalist is a huge achievement given the competition on show, so to walk away with a trophy in your hand deserves huge congratulations.”
