It has offices in 24 countries and its products and services are available in more than 160 countries. It was the patron of The Sage Gateshead music venue in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Company was founded by David Goldman together with Paul Muller and Graham Wylie in 1981 in Newcastle upon Tyne to develop estimating and accounting software for small businesses.
