UK headquartered mining giant Rio Tinto has partnered with the London’s 2012 Olympic Games to become the 'Official Mining and Metals Provider'.

Medal winners will be sporting copper and silver mined from the firm’s Utah copper mine in the US, and from a site in Mongolia.

Rio Tino Limited, also listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, has also taken the opportunity to sponsor the Australian team as part of a renewed marketing campaign.

"Rio Tinto's own values of accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity are in tune with those of the Australian Olympic Team and we are thrilled to partner with the AOC [Australian Olympic Committee] and help our athletes achieve success in London,” Rio Tinto managing director Australia David Peever.
