JD Sports has said it achieved record trading in the first half of the year.

The sports-fashion retailer reported profits of £16.45m in the six months to the start of August, up from £6.09m in the same period last year.

Executive Chairman Peter Cowgill said JD Sports was "well positioned to deliver results towards the upper end of current market expectations".

It has 850 stores in the UK, 12 in Germany and has started trading in France and the Netherlands having opened new stores during the six months.

"There will be further openings in all of our international territories in the second half," he added.
