More than 581,000 startups were created in the UK in 2014, according to think tank Centre for Entrepreneurs.
And 2015 is expected to be another record breaking year, with an estimated 600,000 businesses set to be created.
Centre for Entrepreneurs revealed the figures at the launch of the national tour of its government-backed enterprise campaign, StartUp Britain.
Since StartUp Britain was launched in 2011, the number of startups has increased from 440,600 to nearly 600,000, Centre for Entrepreneurs said.
The StartUp Britain tour will visit 25 locations across the UK providing tips, advice and workshops for budding entrepreneurs.
Sage, a supporting partner of StartUp Britain, said it hopes the campaign will inspire thousands of entrepreneurs and businesses.
