The housing market is expected to pick up over the rest of 2011 according to house builders Persimmon.
This is despite the fact they reported a dip in sales compared to the same period last year, as well as a slight drop in the average selling price.
According to Persimmon they key to building more homes was the increase in mortgage lending.
The opening six months of 2011 saw the house building firm sell 4,439 homes, compared with 4,657 for the same period in 2010.
Despite this they report that sales are beginning to increase and by the end of the year expect to have sold a similar amount of homes as last year.
"We anticipate that our average selling price for the full year will increase as we legally complete more detached house sales," a statement said.
