A special Chinese New Year Dinner has marked another year of opportunities for North East firms who have taken up the exporting for growth challenge.

More than 80 guests gathered at the Landmark Oriental Restaurant, in Newcastle last week, for what has become an annual event for members of the China Networking Club in the North East to celebrate their achievements.

The club, set up by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), enables those involved in exporting to China to share ideas and experiences through online resources such as LinkedIn and regular quarterly events.

Launched in 2011 by Sir Richard Needham, it now boasts more than 100 members and has become a valuable centre for advice and information on both China and Hong Kong business practice.

Dr Zhengming Yang, UKTI’s China Business Development Manager said:
“Chinese New Year is an important date in the calendar and the dinner has proved a popular event among members of the China Networking Club who enjoy the opportunity to meet and talk about their business in a relaxed atmosphere as well as sample Chinese food and culture.

“This year is the Year of the Black Water Snake and snake years reward those who do plenty of research before making a move — which is perfect advice for those looking to export to new markets.

“China is one of the world’s fastest growing markets and offers many opportunities for North East businesses, but they do need to be prepared.

“The club provides a great way for those involved in exporting to China to meet with like-minded people and share their experiences and expertise. UKTI also organises a range of events and market visits in partnership with the China Britain Business Council (CBBC), RTC North, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Institute of Supply Chain Management and local law practices.

“We would encourage any company interested in exporting to China — or any new market — to contact UKTI to find out how we can help.”

'Open to Export' http://opentoexport.com/ is a UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) initiative in partnership with hibu plc (formerly Yell Group).
