It has been seven years in the making, but finally the wait is over, the 2012 Olympics are officially opened today (Friday) as the eyes of the world turn their focus to Great Britain, and in particular London.

For professional athletes the Olympics is the pinnacle of their sporting careers, more so for those representing Great Britain on home soil. However, the Olympics is not just about sport and the hunt for gold medals. With the sport comes business, on all levels, and despite various negative stories in the press over the past months there is plenty for British businesses to excited about.

Not only is the Olympics a golden opportunity for businesses to take advantage of the increased number of visitors to our shores, but a time to create a lasting legacy, forge ongoing partnerships and above all, showcase the best of Britain.

David Scott, from South West London’s Rainbow Productions, a company who signed a licensing agreement to manufacture costumes and manage the personal appearances of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville, is clearly in support of the Olympics.

“I am absolutely delighted that Rainbow Productions was commissioned to bring to life Wenlock and Mandeville as walkabout mascots and manage their personal events in the run up to and during the Olympic Games," he said.

"On a personal level, I’ve been a huge supporter of the London Olympics from bid status to present day; myself and the team are proud to be associated with this global event taking place in our home city. From a business perspective, taking the Olympic mascots to schools, retail venues, stadia openings, press calls and partner events across the country for the past 24 months has secured a constant stream of work for the company and its employees.

"In addition, I believe that winning the tender for London 2012 has provided a further boost to Rainbow Productions’ profile as a world-class mascot manufacturer - and the expertise and experience required for our involvement in this large-scale event will deliver benefits when we pitch for future business."
