O2 have announced it has signed an agreement to provide Tragus restaurants with its market changing wifi service, which is free for both O2 and non-O2 mobile customers.

The deal is the first O2 Wifi has struck with a restaurant chain and will see hotspots rolled out initially in over 120 renowned restaurants across the UK including Cafe Rouge, and selected Strada and Bella Italia Restaurants.

The contract builds on O2’s partnership with Tragus to offer exclusive discounts to O2 customers through Priority Moments — O2’s location-based offers service that gives exclusive discounts and experiences with some of the UK’s best loved shops restaurants and leisure providers.

Current offers include two courses plus wine for £12 across Café Rouge, Strada and Bella Italia. By combining O2 Wifi and Priority Moments, O2 will be able to deliver an enhanced mobile user experience that gives customers discounts at the restaurants they are closest to and a free wifi connection while dining.

By partnering with O2 Wifi, Tragus will be able to offer a fast, free, reliable and simple to use wifi connection to all its customers, no matter which mobile or broadband provider they are with, addressing many shortcomings of current public wifi offerings. The deal also gives Tragus a platform to further enhance the customer experience through branded landing pages and content, providing relevant and timely offers and rewarding loyalty.

“This agreement takes us a step closer towards achieving our vision of changing the public wifi landscape within three years, by offering people free and fast wifi connections in the places they want it most," Gavin Franks, MD of O2 Wifi said.

"Working with Tragus, we have been able to combine our services, meaning that customers are now able to benefit from free wifi with their meal while taking advantage of exclusive discounts through Priority Moments. As O2 Wifi’s footprint continues to grow, we hope that more people and businesses start to realise the potential of genuinely free and fast wifi.”

O2’s premium wifi hotspots are managed through partnerships with key venue owners. Access to the hotspots is made through a simple sign-up process and is free to both O2 and non-O2 mobile customers, providing seamless connectivity to a high quality network.

O2 will invest over £500m in its mobile network in 2012. This investment will allow O2 to offer customers access to a suite of layered technologies, including 2G, EDGE, 3G, 4G, HSPA+ and wifi, seamlessly, simply and at speed. Its technology-agnostic approach is driven entirely by customers’ needs, delivering services in the best possible way, across multiple networks and supported by different technologies to give customers a continuous, connected experience.
