Work has commenced on a key infrastructure project in Corby that will help to boost the town’s regeneration. The Priors Hall West Link Road project has been awarded a loan of £1.6m from Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership’s (NEP) Growing Places programme, part of a Government initiative to unlock stalled development and bring forward new housing and jobs growth across the county.

The project, led by the Bela Partnership, will see the construction of a new road that will support the development of over 400,000 sq. ft. of new commercial floor space at Priors Hall, Corby and bring back into use over 12 hectares of brownfield land. The road will link the development site to the main highways network, creating access to new and future developments.

The project forms part of a wider range of infrastructure schemes, including the development of over 5,000 new homes at Priors Hall and the construction of the Corby Northern Orbital Road, which will form an integral part of the development of the Rockingham area.

Paul Southworth, Chairman of NEP said: “The Priors Hall West Link Road is a key piece of infrastructure for Corby and we are incredibly proud to be supporting this scheme and to be moving ahead with the Growing Places programme in Northamptonshire. We are working in partnership with both the Homes and Communities Agency and the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership on the wider scheme which will bring enormous benefits to Corby and to Northamptonshire.”

County Council leader, Cllr. Jim Harker OBE, said: “This is exactly the sort of scheme for which the Growing Places fund was developed and I am delighted we are now seeing construction happening on the ground. This new road will facilitate new commercial and housing development, and is a key project in driving the regeneration and growth of Corby.”

Alfred Buller, Director of Bela Partnership, said: “It is with great pleasure that we are undertaking this key infrastructure work with the support of NEP; they (NEP) are and will continue to be a key stakeholder in delivering the essential requirements to fulfill the potential in the Corby area for development of both commercial and residential possibilities.”

The project is part of the £5.9 million Growing Places Fund that the Government allocated to NEP in February 2012 and is the latest project to be supported by NEP following earlier schemes at the A45 / A5 Weedon Crossroads, and at the St Johns / Plough Gyratory in Northampton town centre.
