Mozilla, the company best known for its web browser Firefox, has launched a $33 smartphone in India.
The Intex Cloud FX will be the first low cost smartphone to run on Mozilla's Firefox operating system in Asia. It will be sold from Indian online shopping site, Snapdeal.
The phone is thought to be Mozilla's attempt to capitalise on India's emerging smartphone market, which is one of the fastest growing in the world.
In a statement, Mozilla said: "With the launch of Intex Cloud FX, we aim to enable the masses to get smartphone experience at the cost of a feature phone."
Mozilla's president, Li Gong, said the device will "redefine the entry-level smartphone and create strong momentum in Asia".
The Intex Cloud FX will have up to 4GB of memory, Bluetooth, WiFi and duel-SIM capabilities. Mozilla is expected to reveal more details about the smartphone in the coming weeks.
