Mazda and Mitsubishi are the latest Japanese car manufacturers to recall hundreds of thousands cars over faulty airbags.

Between them, Mazda and Mitsubishi are recalling 630,000 vehicles.

Last week, Toyota and Nissan together recalled 6.5 million vehicles for the same reason.

Mazda is recalling 125,000 vehicles and Mitsubishi 512,000.

Takata, the firm that makes the faulty airbags, says it is doubling the number of cars it is recalling to 34 million.

Six deaths have been reported as a result of the fault, all in Honda vehicles. There have also been 100 reported injuries.
