In what has been a truly terrible year, Malaysia Airlines has now announced it will cut 6,000 jobs as part of a major restructuring plan.

In March, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur. Just a few months later in July, the unthinkable happened when another disaster struck the airline. Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine, with the understanding that it was shot down.

Under the restructuring, Malaysia Airlines' workforce will be reduced by around 30% to 20,000. It will also become completely government owned and a new chief executive will be appointed.
