Pilots of the German airline Lufthansa are to hold another strike today (Friday), affecting around 250,000 passengers.

Lufthansa said it has had to cancel more than 200 flights, with many more delays expected. Short-haul and medium-haul flights out of Frankfurt, Europe's third-largest airport, will be hit.

The German airline has been locked in a dispute with Vereinigung Cockpit union over an early retirement scheme for a number of months.

The strike will last for six hours, starting from 1500 GMT.

A union official said: "We will continue to strike until Lufthansa brings an end to the confrontational way in which they deal with staff."

Lufthansa pilots staged a three day strike in April at the heart of the Easter break which affected hundreds of thousands of passengers, and knocked Lufthansa's finances.
