LinkedIn has bought online education platform Lynda for $1.5 billion.

The business focused social network is planning to expand content for its 300 million users.

The purchase is LinkedIn's largest to-date.

Lynda is an online education platform in which subscribers pay $375 a year to access video tutorials on a variety of skills and topics.

"The mission of LinkedIn and the mission of lynda.com are highly aligned," said LinkedIn chief executive Jeff Weiner in a statement.

"Both companies seek to help professionals be better at what they do."
