Commenting on Vince Cable’s speech to the Liberal Democrat Conference, Miles Templeman, Director-General of the Institute of Directors, said:

“Vince Cable is a politician who wanted to make a political speech to a political audience, but once you peel away the rhetoric what we see is a new enquiry into whether there is too much short-termism in corporate Britain.

“This is an important subject, and clearly there are public concerns that need to be listened to. However, we should remember that a lot of this ground has been covered before in very recent times. Quite what a new wide-ranging enquiry will achieve is not clear to us. That said, the IoD will certainly be making a contribution to the discussion that Vince Cable has initiated.”
