I've always fancied myself as bit of an armchair psychologist. The way we do things, and why we do them has always fascinated me.
So you can imagine how excited I am for Tash Walker's presentation at Integrated Live. Tash is the founder of The Mix, an applied human behaviour company which helps companies to understand why their customers do what they do.
In the weeks leading up to Integrated Live, I'm speaking to as many of speakers as I can. And next up is Tash!
What area of marketing do you specialise in?
Applied human behaviour.
How long have you been with the company?
The Mix is now four and a half years old.
How long have you been in marketing?
I’ve been working with brands for the past 12 years, spending the formative years of my career at JKR and FutureBrand.
Why do you do what you do?
There’s a saying I’ve been living by for a good while now, "Human behaviour is fascinating. Research isn’t”... Clearly the way we behave is captivating; it’s the reason we watch reality tv, read horoscopes and enjoy eavesdropping on other peoples conversations.
Which marketing platform do you use the most?
Twitter and LinkedIn in equal measures.
If you could only use one marketing platform for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Twitter for sure, though using the hootsuite dashboard rather than the Twitter homepage feed. I have lists set up for everything.
What is your favourite thing about marketing?
In a way I love the fantasy of marketing, I love that we all get so obsessed with the things we work on, I think it makes some of our work better.
Is content still king?
Content was only king in terms of quantity. In the real world no one cares about content. Too much stuff, too little time, too little thought as to its purpose. Content is making good work much harder to do and much harder to see.
In a sentence, what's your presentation about?
For the first time ever we’ll soon have as many ‘old’ as we have ‘young’ in the UK, is BREXIT just the first sign on the horizon of a future that in fact does not belong to the next generation?
You can find Tash's presentation on generational marketing in the Innovation & Insight Theatre at 3:30pm at Integrated Live on 17 November, but you'll have to register for your free ticket first:
