The amazing thing about Integrated Live is that there really are so many amazing people giving the best advice out there in the marketing world. Even as someone working on the event, I spend my days in the run-up looking at which presentations I really want to see. I can't imagine what it's like for you!
That's why we're spending the next few weeks doing quickfire interviews with as many of the speakers as we can to give you a little insight into who they are, what they do and what they're going to be talking about at Integrated Live.
First up, because he took the 'quickfire' nature of these interviews by responding faster than we've ever known before, is Gareth Cartman, director of digital marketing at CLD, a digital agency based in Berkshire.
What area of marketing do you specialise in?
Digital - especially search & content
How long have you been with the company?
I joined 5 years ago
How long have you been in marketing?
Since the early 2000s when I launched a bilingual magazine in Paris.
What do you do?
I lead CLD's digital offering to our clients & prospects - creatingdigital strategies, account directing, blogging...
Which marketing platform do you use the most (and it can't be yourown!)?
Sharpspring. It does everything we need, combining the IP tracking with email automation, landing pages and reporting.
If you could only use one marketing platform for the rest of your life, what would it be? (And no, you can't choose your own this time)
What is your favourite thing about marketing?
No challenge is the same, and everything's always changing. You can learn from the most apparently simple project, there¹s always something new. But the objectives are almost always the same; "grow my business".
Is content still king?
I hate that phrase. It's as if content and content marketing is a new thing, but we've had content since the cavemen were telling stories and drawing on walls. The thing about content is that so few people are able to write well. So few people are able to communicate to an audience in a concise, compelling manner. So, yes, it's still all about content, but it's really about knowing your content strategy and getting a really good writer. Then, knowing how to promote the life out of it.
In a sentence, what's your presentation about?
Google penalises websites because users don't like them, and I've got the proof.
You can find Gareth's presentation on Google penalties in the Engagement Theatre at 1pm at Integrated Live, but you'll have to register for your free ticket first:
