The Institute of Directors today announces the appointment of James Sproule as Chief Economist and Head of Policy. He will replace Graeme Leach, who is leaving the IoD after 12 years.
James joins from Accenture where for the past seven years he has led UK and Global Capital Markets research and Accenture’s “Thought Leadership” program. He was previously Director of Research for Augusta Finance plc and Chief Economist at the Association of British Insurers. He has been a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics Institute of Management, and he is currently visiting Professor at Gresham College.
Simon Walker, Director General of the Institute of Directors, said: “Graeme has become a familiar figure across the media and throughout our membership. His contribution to the IoD and the economic debate of our country has been immense, and we feel certain he will continue to exercise a profound influence on economic arguments, both within the UK and internationally. He will remain a valued friend of the Institute and an Honorary Fellow.
“James comes on board at a vital time for British business, and an exciting time for the IoD. As the economic recovery gains strength, there is much work to do in addressing the decline of public trust in business and in promoting the IoD’s core values. I’m thrilled to welcome him to his new role and very much look forward to working with him.”
Commenting on his new role, James said: I am delighted to be joining the Institute of Directors and I look forward to building on the efforts of Graeme Leach. Over the last 12 years, he has helped ensure that the IoD maintains its position as a major voice in economic debates, through successive governments and the ups and downs of the economic cycle.”
Graeme Leach will leave his role at the end of January 2014.
