Industrial output in the UK grew at its fastest rate for six months in March, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Output was up 0.5% in March, compared with 0.1% in February and expectations of 0.1%.

The ONS said it was boosted by rise in oil and gas extraction.

Manufacturing, which accounts for the bulk of industrial output, grew faster than expected at 0.4% compared with February. But year-on-year growth is 1.1%, the slowest since December 2013.
