The Institute of Directors (IoD) is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Chairman, Ian Dormer, as Dr. Neville Bain stands down after the maximum period of six years as head of the organisation.

Mr. Dormer’s involvement with the IoD spans more than 20 years, having served as Regional Chairman for the North East and Chairman of the Committee which oversees the IoD’s Chartered Director programme.

He is the Managing Director of Rosh Engineering Ltd., specialist contractors to the electrical supply industry. It was a small family business employing only three staff when he took over in 1989, but today Rosh is a thriving enterprise providing specialist engineering services across the UK and northern Europe.

“I am delighted with Ian’s appointment," Simon Walker, Director General of the Institute of Directors, said.

"He has proved his commitment to the best interests of British business during many years of involvement with the IoD and its members. He is a champion for responsible commerce and the positive role it can play in society. I am sure that with his wealth of business experience he will prove to be an excellent Chairman.”

Ian Dormer said it was a huge honour to be appointed as the IoD's new chairman.

“Being appointed Chairman of the IoD is an enormous honour, particularly as I follow in the footsteps of such an inspirational figure as Neville Bain," he said.

"I am passionate about business and the positive benefits that its success can bring. My 20 years of involvement with the IoD have given me a unique insight into the needs of British business leaders. I look forward to using all the experience I have gained, both with the IoD and as a managing director, to drive the ambitious plans the Institute has to support its members over the next five years.”

Mr. Dormer believes in the power of business to do good for its community, and not merely in terms of generating wealth. He takes pride in Rosh Engineering’s record as a responsible employer, which has seen it win several awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Beyond his own company, Mr. Dormer has played an extremely active role in the business community in the North East of England as Chairman of Business Link Tyne and Wear and later as a board member of ONE North East, the Regional Development Agency.
