House prices grew by 9.8% in the year to December, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), indicating that house price inflation is still strong.
The ONS said it was slightly lower than the 9.9% seen in November.
England saw that fastest price growth at 10.2%. Scotland house prices were up 5.5% and Northern Ireland and Wales saw growth of just 4.9% and 4% respectively.
The ONS said the overall increase was driven by London once again, where prices were up 13.3%.
The average UK home now costs £272,000.
