Heavy snow and widespread icy roads are causing chaos for motorists but it is the build up of ice on parking stands around the planes at Heathrow and other airports that is causing misery for many would be air passengers.
No flights are arriving at Heathrow on Sunday and very few departing.
A spokesperson for Gatwick said; "Although it was doing everything it could to get passengers on their way. Passengers must check with their airline before setting out for the airport to reduce congestion and avoid disappointment,"
The Met Office says it is too early to say whether we will have a ‘White Christmas’ we can expect continued cold conditions and more commuter chaos.
Drivers are being advised to check road conditions before they travel.
The Highways Agency say;
“There is still a need to drive with care, even after road surfaces have been treated with salt and are clear of snow. Even where roads have been treated, drivers are advised to pay particular care where local conditions such as road gradients, bends or overhanging trees mean there may be an increased risk of difficult driving conditions.”
