Harry Ramsden's first ever chip shop in Guiseley, Leeds, is due to close after 83 years of business.
The Guiseley branch was the first of the Harry Ramsden's branches to open back in 1928.
The 24 staff employed at the branch will be offered alternative jobs elsewhere but compulsory redundancies "may become necessary", the company said.
"I appreciate that this news will be deeply upsetting and stressful for our staff," Joe Teixeira, Harry Ramsden's Chief Executive said.
"We are giving them as much information as possible and doing whatever we can to help them through what will be a traumatic period for them."
