Local education and childcare firms are being urged to sign up for a free event in Guildford which will help them take advantage of the opportunities presented by the Olympic and Paralympic games to sell more overseas, with the help of locally based government export body, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) South East.

The half day seminar on 1 August at the University of Surrey in Guildford will look at international business opportunities in the education and childcare sector, from the development and export of educational equipment, resources, technology and software to sustainable education, corporate training and further and higher education.

The event will feature a live feed from the Lancaster House Global Business Summit on Education, hosted by Lord Green and featuring speakers including Olympians Steve Cram and Sally Gunnell.

An interactive networking session will follow, led by Rob Lewtas, Partnership Development Manager, UKTI South East, which will offer an opportunity to explore and discuss international business development planning and support.

"The eyes of the world are on the UK for the Olympic and Paralympic Games giving the UK’s excellent reputation added kudos," Lewis Scott, Regional Director, UKTI South East said.

“Our region is already the largest exporter in the UK but we need more firms to be exporting if we are to give the economy a boost. And that's why we're organising events like this - to help companies showcase themselves to the world during this time.

"We already have a reputation for excellence in the education and childcare sector and we want to ensure local firms are making the most of current opportunities and looking further afield."
